Disappointing annual salary increase

Anonymous
I am beyond disappointed. I got no promotion and a 5k salary increase. Needles to say, I work my a** off and I am a key team member. To what extent I can raise my disappointment with my manager? Can I ask him for a higher salary increase?

Start looking elsewhere is my only answer. I only got 3.5% increase too

What percentage is $5k?

At least you got something. My spouse is getting a huge decrease.

Most people I know haven’t got a raise the past 2 years. Even top performers. So their salary effectively went down!

What %is that? Only way to really increase is be promoted a significant amount. Usually to management or leave.

OP here. It is a 5% increase. My salary was 100k and now it is 105k. For the past 6 months, I have been replacing a colleague who is 3 levels above me. This colleague is not with the company anymore and the expectation is I will be doing is job going forward. I only get accolades. My review was assessed as “above expectations” I am a woman - is it okay to advocate for myself?

Yes

You are looking for a promotion, not an annual increase.

5% for annual is good.

Op here. I clearly need to reconcile my feelings but I feel so taken advantage of. All those long hours, weekends work etc. They don’t care. I am afraid I come across as a nice and polite and well behaved young woman and they think it is enough to give me accolades and it should be enough for me. I feel like such a fool for putting so much in this work.

Only way to increase comp is changing jobs. Have you missed the memo?

Why would they pay you more? They got a hardworking replacement for cheap. Take your business elsewhere, that’s the only way you’re going to get significant raises.

They do care, hence the increase. If you need to renegotiate your salary or title, that's a different conversation.

Either pull back or find a new job.

5% increase is pretty standard for exceeds expectations. 3% is also a typical raise.
