You’ve Got Mail sequel?

What would it be like? Would Joe and Kathleen have kids? Would Amazon have put Fox Books out of business? What happened to Frank and Sydney Anne? Who did Patricia end up with?

Frank and Sydney Anne?

No one cares. Meg Ryan looks completely different with her botched plastic surgery.

I realized some time ago that all my favorite romantic stories have male characters that are controlling or manipulative towards the female character, whether they're classic literature or movies like You've Got Mail.

It's sad.

NP. Wow, you appear to have a very strong opinion about what somebody else looks like.

However, back to the topic at hand, which is fictional sequel, I would imagine they have two kids and a dog and live in a brownstone. And the sequel topic would be the demise of bookstores in general.

Lots of fillers and plastic surgery.

They waited too long. It’s been almost a lifetime. Their kids would be in college or grad school now.

Would have been cute in the early 2000s tho.

Fox Books is revitalized thanks to BookTok, and Kathleen has to help Joe be more welcoming to his romantasy customers. Hilarity ensues at a midnight launch party for a popular faerie smut series. Also a slightly risqué window display of leather-clad dragon riders sends the elder neighbors into a tizzy.

They could totally make a sequel!

Driven out of business by Amazon, now Hanks understands how Ryan felt. It causes a rift in their marriage which prompts therapy with NYC’s top doc: Billy Crystal. He suggests they take an extended holiday to reconnect, and they end up in some fabulously gorgeous location far off the beaten path where they decide to open a little book shop/cafe. It’s a fish out of water story as they try to adapt to the local culture.

Subplot: They are shocked to discover their adult children’s kids don’t read! Like most kids today, they have the attention span of a gnat and use screens at school. They come for a visit to their adopted new home/country and learn how to detach and dive into books.

Tons of gorgeous shots of people reading under a tree or on a beach.

Hilarious back and forth with quirky locals.

If Hanks and Ryan are reading this, call me for the script. Happy to help!

Signed,

Amy

In the sequel Fox Books goes out of business due to Amazon. Joe is depressed and takes off on a sailing trip. Kathleen realizes she needs to go back to basics. She opens a bespoke indie bookstore in Park Slope that becomes wildly successful due to a viral TikTok video (George runs her social media). Joe sees the TikTok, realizes that he can't live without Kathleen, and sails back to beg her forgiveness. The movie ends with them reuniting on the Brooklyn Bridge.

And..... scene.

I imagine Kathleen will learn TikTok from the grandkids and use it to help the UWS neighborhood’s small businesses. Plus they meet up at Cafe Lalo where they have afternoon dessert. They probably struggle to order elaborate coffee drinks. Maybe she starts an Insta page about books.
