FSH levels

Can someone explain FSH levels to me. My RE told me on day 3 testing my FSH was a 12 but he did not seem too concerned. Is this a bad level? Is it going to prevent me from getting pregnant? I am really freaking out, so could someone set me straight here? Thanks.

Hi there. That Fsh is kind of high, but not the worst. The first time I had it tested mine was 21! And I got pregnant that same month (naturally)
Amh levels and antral follicle count are better indicators of ovarian reserve and how well you'll respond to meds. Gl!

Your FSH level is an indicator of how you MIGHT respond to stimulation meds like Gonal-f, Menopur, etc. A level of 12 is a little high by many clinic's standards - meaning you might not respond to meds as well as someone with a lower level , but it is not an indicator of whether you can or cannot get pregnant. The fact that your RE was not fazed by the level is actually a very good sign, as it indicates to me that he works with women who have elevated/high FSH and you want someone who has that experience. FWIW - my level is around 11 and I respond decently to the stim drugs. I have gotten pregnant from those cycles, but have miscarried - likely due to my age (over 40) more than anything else. Good luck!

How old are you? Several REs including Dr Davis at Cornell told me that a younger person with an FSH of 12 will do better than an older person with an FSH or 12.

That is a bit high (depending on your age) but try not to freak out. My FSH was always on the high side for my age. 9.8 at age 35 and 11.8 at age 39. I always responded great to the medication and has success with IUI at age 35 and IVF at age 40.

Clinic labs have different scales, so for some a 12 may be borderline, while for others it would be considered high.
