Would love to know what smoothing and straightening treatments everyone is loving these days specifically for frizzy hair.
My hair is very thick/course and wavy, but extremely frizzy and puffy. I blow dry it straight and flatiron it regularly which takes an hour. I have tried various straightening and smoothing treatments over the years, including Japanese straightening (loved the results but it really damaged my hair) and Brazilian blowout (also great results but horrible smell and not into formaldehyde). Has anyone tried one of the newer treatments like Keratin Complex, Magic Sleek or anything else? Would love to hear feedback and recommendations. |

I’ve not found anything as good as the Japanese straightening, but the formula has definitely changed over the years so it seems to be less damaging to my hair, and it doesn’t take as long as it used to (3-4 hours instead of 6).
I can’t do highlights, but i can still color my grays |
| Right now I'm using TIGI, but my stylist recommended Color WOW and that's up next. I also really like the JVN products. |
| Frizz means you have hidden curls. I have the same kind of hair and used to think it was wavy and frizzy/puffy. Now I style it curly and I have real curls without frizz. Look up the curly girl method. |
Which JVN products are good for straightening? Everything I tried was high quality but very volumizing -- the opposite of what I need with frizzy/wavy hair. |
| I have hair that is similar. I like the k18 serum and Dyson Air Wrap. Expensive but this combo has my drying/styling time down DRAMATICALLY. Like 10 minutes rather than 60. Gamechanger. |
| I have a similar hair type and switched to the nontoxic Cezanne Keratin Smoothing Treatment. It lasts about 4-5 months and has drastically improved my frizz. I no longer need a lot of hair product or regular blowouts. |
+1 Although my hair has always been curly, it wasn't until I started watching TikTok that I learned how to really maximize the curls. I started doing it with DD's hair (hers sounds like yours). It's not as curly as mine but it's more curly than wavy. It looks great! |
| Just had Magic Sleek done today. I love it. Sooooo much better than the old formaldehyde toxic cloud from Brazilian straightening. My first treatment lasted 9 months and then the new hair that had grown out was getting frizzy so needed another treatment. Highly recommend. |
Where do you get this done? |
I have had this treatment several times and it looks great for like 6 weeks, then a little improved for 6 more weeks then it is basically gone. For me it’s too much time and money for the results. |
| OP, have you tried not fighting your hair texture? I have similar hair and just can't deal with an hour of straightening. I do a modified curly girl type of method and just wear my hair curly. It looks great and my hair is super healthy. |
| I have similar hair.. and I’ve tried to do natural but it’s an ugly wave. I’ve tried magic sleek and I’ve done keratin. I didn’t think magic sleek did much..I had high hopes. Was great for maybe 4-6 was but didn’t feel like it was worth the money/time. It’s probably been 8 years since I’ve done keratin. I’ve done it 2-3 times and gotten varying results… one time it was too straight another time it did nothing. Honestly, with all these things I think it’s so dependent on who you go to. |
| Really haven’t found anything I like as much as John Freida frizz ease. |
Color WOW works really well. I was impressed. |
