WaPo article re: forever chemicals and turf fields

https://www.washingtonpost.com/wellness/2024/03/12/artificial-turf-pfas-chemicals/

I haven't come to any conclusion, but if I had to guess I'd say that exposure to forever chemicals happens when playing on turf fields, but that it also happens in 100 other activities that kids engage in, and so playing on turf doesn't make much difference; and that the health benefits of being able to play/practice on turf fields year-round (instead of sitting on the sofa playing video games) offset any potential negative health consequences of playing on turf fields.

But I don't know ... just thought it was interesting enough to share the article

If you don’t have a WaPo and NYTimes subscription you should be banned from dcum imo. You’re bringing down our averages.

We couldn't afford bubblegum when we were kids, so my brothers and I chewed pieces of old car tires.

We turned out fine

Seriously most parents on this forum I assume were shaped by the lawless 80s in terms of enironmental regulations. We all procreated just fine enough to afford pay to play soccer. All is good stop your whining

The media has been trying to write this exact story every couple of years for better than a decade, and they always come to the same conclusion "turf advocates and other scientists say there’s no reliable evidence showing that PFAS in turf pose a risk." Yet the stories gets written every year.

It must be part of new journalist initiation/hazing/. "As your first assignment, go research and write a story about the effect of little black turn pellets on kids playing youth soccer."

Au contraire - if you read the Washington Post for anything other local news, you are an idiot who is almost certainly lowering the IQ of the group. I stopped reading it years ago. You will not find anything credible or rigorous in either publication when it comes to science, technology or economics.

If people like you had supported legacy media they wouldn’t have had to be sold to Jeff Bezos.
