| If my son has the smallest feet in the entire grade, does this mean he’s destined to be short or that he’s a late grower? There are all these boys around him with grown men sized feet but not much taller than him and thought I read that feet growing is an indication of puberty starting. He’s a bit shorter than average right now. |
| What are the heights of the parents and their shoe sizes? |
|
If two kids are the same height, the one who is further from puberty will probably end up taller because they will keep growing longer.
So, the fact that his feet haven’t started growing fast yet isn’t a sign he will be short in the end. |
| No. Foot size is genetic and is mostly independent of height. 6’ tall man with men’s size 7.5 feet. |
| The reason there is no shoe size vs height chart for parents to obsess about is because the correlation is quite loose. In general, taller people usually have bigger feet, but in the same way that taller people usually have longer legs. But we all know short people with very long legs and short torsos and tall people with short legs and long torsos. |
| Curious what his shoe size is if he's the smallest in the class? |
| How tall are the parents |
|
Foot size doesn’t always correlate with height so I would not worry about that.
Feet do tend to grow first but it isn’t always super dramatic. My teen DD had really fast foot growth (multiple sizes in a short period of time) before she grew but my DS has been more gradual. |
4 foot 11 |
4.5 size shoe. Dad is average height with average shoe size (10). Mom is above average height with average shoe size (8). He still has many baby teeth, has no other body hair or BO so I think he’s a late grower but he’s surrounded by boys who are wearing size 10s and I’m just fascinated that they aren’t much taller but huge feet! |

Feet grow first.
Your kid sounds like mine. He was small and thin in 6th grade and many of his friends were huge, stinky and had giant feet. Many of the friends grew early and topped out around 5'10 or so. My kid didn't grow much until 8th grade. He's a senior now and 6'3. Wears a size 10 shoe. |
| How do you know shoe sizes for all the boys in the entire grade? |
He knows. Kids talk about funny things. It's also an all boys school and they compete over everything. |
I just bought my 5th grader a toddler size 13 pair of sandals. I'm pretty sure your kid doesn't have the smallest feet. |
Good lord, how?! |
