I’m a veteran teacher (18 years this year) but new to MCPS. Is parent shadowing universal at all MCPS middle schools? We were told last Friday parents basically can pick 6 days in (3 in March and 3 in April) to come shadow their kid. I’ve never heard of this in my entire teaching career. It seems like such a waste of real instructional time and completely disruptive. I understand the Open House in October, but this seems excessive and quite frankly, ludicrous.

| As a teacher, I love it! Just continue with normal instruction? I've had parents shadow when students couldn't get it together and it made a difference because they didn't want it to happen again. |

I have never heard of this outside the open house (which also seems like a waste of time).

| I teach elementary in mcps but have had 3 kids go through middle and I’ve never heard of this. |
That’s a little different than having 6 available days where any parent of any student can just voluntarily show up. It’s fine for students who can’t get it together or if a parent is concerned, but this is basically 6 days of Open House. |
| I've never heard of this, but I'd love to be able to do it - except that it would _really_ bother my kid. Probably better for DC that I should volunteer in various ways and places as I can. |
Never heard of this. I have one kid in HS and another in MS. |
| My kids are in college but it existed for us. We stopped going after maybe 6th grade as the kids did not want us to come. I think DD really loved a hs teacher and wanted us to meet her so we went just to that class |
| Parents at the middle level don’t even come to open house. Their kids would be mortified haha. I have never heard of this and I’ve taught in multiple middle schools. Plus had a kid in another one. |
