Is bringing drug dogs to the LCPS high schools a complete waste of time and taxpayer money?

What's the point of searching empty hallways and unused lockers? I understand that they need a warrant to search the kids. So why bother at all?

Because fentanyl is killing people? Because students will think twice about bringing drugs to school if they know there will be searches by dogs? Lots of reasons to "bother." And you don't need a warrant to search someone if probable cause exists, which could exist if the drug dog hits on something that can be traced to someone.

But what is a dog going to hit on in an empty hallway? The kids don't use their lockers.

Genuinely don’t understand this claim they need a warrant to search kids. They don’t. You don’t have a right to privacy in schools. LCPS did this years ago and the dogs could sniff bags and such. They’ll find absolutely nothing in lockers or hallways, waste of time.

Security theater. Showing they “care” and are “doing something.”

Maybe instead the parents could wake up and do something but no.
