No matter the season or store it seems like random luck to get oranges that are not half dried out anymore. This has been a years long problem even in season. I just want a freakin’ orange that isn’t pale and half dry. Better yet if it actually tasted good. Even organically grown ones have been a disappointment. Help.

| If you are in Arlington now, the s-itty safeway by the Firestation on the corner of George Mason and Wilson has great sweet juicy ones for 1$ each. Just got some more for homemade OJ. Each produces abuot 1/2 cut of sweet juice. |
| You have to pick them out. They have to feel heavy for their size. And by and large I haven’t had to be as careful with Cara Caras. |
| i have good luck at trader joe’s. also agree that cara cara are pretty consistent. |
So — I did have luck with these but I never know when luck will run out. I saw them for the first time recently. The ones that were loose were great. I went back and bought a couple more loose ones. They too were great. Then I bought a bag and they were … “dry.” 😢 —OP |
| My Kensington Safeway seems to have consistently excellent produce. |
| I have decent luck with the bag from Sam’s Club. |
Anyone have luck in Fairfax county? Ideally Reston / Herndon area? |

| My friend sends me oranges from Florida (as a Christmas gift). They are much better than what I can buy in the DMV. |
I've mostly given up and resorted to seedless mandarins by Aldi. They are almost always good, only had a "bad" bunch once. I still make sure it's a "heavy bag" though. Even the Halos and L'il Cuties from other stores are unreliable. Agree with previous poster about selecting regular oranges by weight - but it still is no guarantee around here. Produce around here is just sub-par in general. |
