MAP testing question

We are new to this area and this is our first experience with MAP testing. Is 275 a high math score for an 8th grader or is that just a pretty standard advanced score for this metro area …like I said, we are new here

It's an excellent score in the top 1% nationally. Nevertheless, I've heard the median fall score for kids admitted to the SMCS magent was 285. There are even a couple dozen 8th graders who manage toscore over 300.

You can see the percentile on the score report.

275 is approximately complete knowledge of Algebra 1 standards and good knowledge of Geometry standards.

I think it only shows national percentile , not percentile to similarly resourced schools etc

A little below average in DCUMville.

NP here with a related question - do kids continue taking the same test they get in 6th grade in middle school, or do they switch to the algebra test in the year they take algebra? They have several tests: 6+, Algebra 1 and 2, and Geometry. Just curious if all secondary students in MCPS take the 6+ test, or if they switch to a different version when they move to algebra and geometry.

Same test. It's individually adaptive up through precalculus. (All at "on-level", not honors/enriched challenge problems.

My older kid, who is in 8th, scores in the low 300s and often gets questions on quadratic, comics, and trig.

Yes, we're in Potomac so acceleration was an option.
