Does anyone have direct experience with MR K? We got a spot off the waitlist mid year and are trying to assess pros and cons. I’d love to connect.

Where would you be coming from? That’s probably the key variable. Also, how’s the commute?
We’re at MR for PK and have been quite happy but it’s our neighborhood school so our calculus may differ from yours. |

I should have been more clear- which other school are you coming from. |
| It’s a wonderful independent school, so it’s a substantive change on many levels. Commute and feeders are not an issue, but we’d love to hear about the teaching staff and support to kids with learning differences, if possible. |
| We are in English track, but an older grade. One thing I noticed is that there are more higher SES people in Spanish track. I don't have any experience with learning difficulties. Maybe contact the school and see if they could pair you with a family to talk with? |

Pk English family here- we’re pretty new to the school but have been happy overall. I would definitely echo pp and encourage you to ask the admin to link you up to the team who handles kids with special learning support needs. I suspect they’d let your child come for a trial class day or at least a meetup with the teacher. It feels like small community to us and I think you’d get all the meetings you’d need to decide if you want to take the spot.
One warning is that aftercare might not be available- tends to be oversubscribed. |

I have a child in 1st grade English track and the special education and mental health teams have been AMAZING. Way better than what we experienced in a different highly regarded DCPS for kindergarten. My child is doing so well - ADHD and dyslexia diagnosis for her.
They also have standalone classrooms for a special autism program. The whole school seems very integrated in their support for students. |
