DC is interested in a Business + CS minor type degree and considering Loyola Marymount.
Any first hand experience about this school? Hows its reputation for academic rigor and amongst prospective employers? |
| Don't know answers to your specific questions but toured with DS last summer. Campus is gorgeous - overlooks LA from the Pacific to the Hollywood sign. Definitely gives off a private sector vibe (my kid looking at public sector, so we notices) - film school, business, arts, etc. I got the sense the academics were lower stress than his W high school, but also like the kids there would be working right after graduation if not before. |
| We toured as well and found it a gorgeous campus. The AO giving the introductory talk was all about the film school and the contacts within Los Angeles, there was very little about other academic choices. The tour covered a lot of the creative sides of the college as well - the art gallery, etc opportunities to make music and so on. I know they have more women than men and the average GPA on entry is 4.0 but I believe that is weighted. |
| DF has a son studying business there and he loves the school. He has roommates have established a side business that brings in $10k a month. |
| Check out their summer programs. Less of the Math and Science and a lot more "acting for film" type options. |
| It’s become a really hot school for normal kids in the SF Bay Area who want a private college in California. |

Solid school with a good brand in SoCal. If the stats are high, they give merit too.
|
| It also has a lot of celebrity kids, not super famous ones, more reality kids and z list celeb kids. |
| Decent school. better choice if interested in arts cinema etc. But cant go wrong, if not chasing prestige. |
