| Similar to a previous post, wondering about Maret or GDS for middle school. What can people with kids at either school share about GDS versus Maret for a kid entering in middle school. (FWIW, I have read the post about high school differences). |

I'll bite. Our kid started private in MS, and while there were a lot of factors that went into our decision, one was that the HS grades were a bit smaller at Maret than we preferred. Logistics were also an issue. Our kid has gone through GDS MS, and loved it, but the grading system is for the birds and the writing instruction leave a lot to be desired. If your kid is a naturally gifted writing and also spent the time necessary to learn grammar, not an issue, but it's telling that our kid is still being taught grammar in HS.
We have friends with kids at all these schools, and they are far, far more similar than people want to admit. Logistics, class size, extracurricular requirements, specific offerings/sports, etc. are things that can make a read difference day-to-day. We've been very happy with GDS, but if it took 30 minutes to get our kid there, we would have picked a closer option. |
Thank you, this is very helpful! |
Maret has a curriculum and grades, avoid GDS. |
With all the craziness going on at GDS- which has been discussed plenty here- I cannot imagine anyone sending their kids there, especially at the impressionable ages of LS and MS. |
Bump this. Any comments on GDS MS? |
