What location do you consider too hot for a trip in August?

Anonymous
My husband wants to take a tropical vacation this year. Obviously the least expensive time is August and we are thinking Grand Cayman. We will get trip insurance because of hurricane season. But also, is it too hot to play/sit on the beach at that time too? For comparison, I went to Amelia Island last August and found it to be oppressively hot to even sit on the sand for more than 10 minutes and just basically sat in the pool. We have 3 kids so this is a family trip.

The previous summer we did Universal in July and didn't think it was such a big deal, so maybe we can do anything?

Thanks!

Caribbean is usually steady all year round plus the trade winds. You’ll be fine!
Hawaii is good in August too if you need an alternative.

I don’t go to Florida

I'm from northern Europe and all I want to do in August is go somewhere like Iceland. We went to my favorite corner of the Alps a few years ago, at the highest altitude we could get, and had a heat wave.

So now it's Iceland or Norwegian fjords or similar.

I visit the Caribbean any time of year and this year we will visit Anguilla for two weeks in July/Aug. I love the heat!

But if you were that sensitive to the heat on a previous trip to FL, I would not spend the money on GCM. Save that for Thanksgiving etc

The price at Thanksgiving vs August is probably triple or quadruple.

If you want to go, go - most of these islands only have like a 10 degree temperature difference between peak winter and peak summer. The bigger issue is rains and storms, so I'd look up when the rainy season is. (We obviously know its hurricane season so make sure you have insurance or a plan)

Agree that the islands are generally doable for summer travel. I'd def avoid W Europe esp Med and Asia mostly. Also Fl and the south. I'd go N like Chicago. N CA is OK but in recent years it's been brutally hot/fires around. I would look at Scandinavia and Canada just to be safe. I mean it's the seasons. Though agree Hawaii works well.

I hate the heat, but I agree that the Caribbean is fine in August thanks to the breeze. Last year we went to Anguilla as well and hardly anyone was there. It wasn’t too hot and we had no trouble getting a table at any of the restaurants. Hawai’i is wonderful in the summer too. If you have little kids, the waves are much calmer. Bermuda is another place I really enjoyed in August.

Places I would avoid in July/August due to oppressive heat: New Orleans, Florida, Texas, South Carolina, Georgia, Italy, Spain.

Palm Springs is oppressively hot in summer. You see a destination that’s 3 blocks away and think “we can walk that” and actually, no you can’t. Not without going inside to A/C at least once each block.

Most destinations are too hot in Aug. for me. Except Santa Fe, Denmark, Finland, Sweden, Maine.

No to Washington, DC, Balt, MD, Paris, Italy, Spain, Greece

Phoenix AZ -- gets up to 105/106 F

Morocco, southern Spain.

Haha -- try 120 F!

I wouldn't go to FL, AZ, Rome/southern Italy for starters.

Check the average temps in August to help guide your decision. And sometimes late August can be better than early August.

That's crazy talk. It's much nicer than DC since there's no humidity.
