If you’ve done something a LOT…. And need to do it again…

Let’s say it’s a 30 minute presentation…. You’ve delivered it a few dozen times already… you’re sick of it.
What do you do to psych yourself up for the next time you need to present it? Any tips? I’m so bored I’m afraid I will come off with really low energy on the next one.

Can you revamp the intro to tell more of an engaging story instead of launching straight into content? See The Story Tellers Secret for ideas. Use it as an opportunity to try something new and try to engage your audience more. Even if it flops, you’ve learned something and improved your presentation skills for next time. I like thinking about the particular audience and trying to figure out how to get an emotional response. Or replace a wordy slide with a simple compelling visual.

Starting with something new, even if it’s just a slightly different way of framing your intro, can energize you for the rest of the talk.

Set up a short audience survey for after your delivery and then look at the results. Use the data to refine your delivery.

I give public presentations pretty frequently and the material isn’t identical but there’s a lot of overlap. To avoid feeling repetitive (because if I feel repetitive I’m going to sound repetitive) I try to embed question-response into my material as I go so that I’m given in-the-moment things to adapt to.
