With a few Northwestern students earlier today.
They said the school is materially less fun than University of Chicago these days. I was shocked. Some NU kids go to Hyde Park for parties?!? They said Evanston is dead; Greek life dead; there ads no parties; the busiest place on a Fri/Sat night is the library (the main one plus the tech library)…..some students had regrets choosing Northwestern (over schools like Vanderbilt; Rice; Michigan; Dartmouth; Cornell) but others said it was what they expected and they didn’t come to college for “fun”. Anyone have recent exp with either school? general student experience? Regrets? |
| I believe it. Every Northwestern alum I’ve met is a stick in the mud. |
| I dont trust kids who think they know what another school is like. because they've been there a couple Saturday nights. |
| Fake post |
This. |
I’m a parent with a prospective junior kid. Tour yesterday. My kid Sat in on a class yesterday. But ok, sure. I’m fake. |
| My kid is there now. There are not a ton of huge parties but there are some. There is usually at least one fraternity party most weekends. And kids also hangout in smaller groups and have their own parties. My kid at Northwestern has a very active social life. No, it’s not the party all the time atmosphere like at Bama or Tulane. But most kids do socialize plenty. My kid is very happy there. |
Is your kid in a house? |
NP If not a fake post, then others are trying to trick your kid into going to University of Chicago where fun does go to die. LOL at the thought of NU students going to U Chicago "parties". OP, if you believe this, you are too naive to be handling a college search. |
Fake post. 100% likely that this is a TROLL. |
| I’m curious about this - have a junior touring both Northwestem and Chicago later this month |

I talked to current students.
My son was introduced to a group (through friends from our private school) and hung out all evening with them at bobs pizza in Evanston. Reported back their discussion- and some of the kids personal regrets. They seemed totally normal but not so thrilled with their decisions. |
| NP. My senior is headed there this fall. He would say he is not interested in frat parties. Small group parties are right up his alley. We'll see what happens. |
They may regret not being admitted to Stanford or Harvard, but unlikely that they regret decision to attend Northwestern as Northwestern's freshmen retention rate is either 98% or 99%. Also, Northwestern University allows admitted students to change schools and/or to double or triple major. Very easy process to switch schools or majors. |

This is interesting because the kids going to Chicago from our private school next year are "popular kids" per my son who is a junior.
They are very strong students but they are also in the party-going, main stream popular crowd. |
