I am moving my family to DC in June. I have lived in DC before and know that I would like to live in the Janney / Lafayette/ Murch or Mann school districts. Zillow has a few ok listings. Are there other places I ought to look?
Is it too soon to look? |
There is extremely limited inventory in these neighborhoods. The spring market started early at least 2 weeks ago. You should find an agent and start looking now.
PP. Sorry, I just realized you are trying to rent, not buy. Although, even for rentals there is extremely limited inventory so I would still start looking now.
If you have friends still in town, ask them to post on neighborhood listservs, Facebook groups, etc. for you.
Post or just join the neighborhood listservs, like the Tenleytown and Cleveland Park ones. There are rental houses posted on them regularly. I think the stock on Zillow tends to be a bit better, but haven't been following super closely.
Are listservs still a thing? Seems kind of outdated and if they are still going strong in those neighborhoods will they let non-residents join?
Going strong and they won’t.
Yes, the list servs in these areas are still quite active. I agree this is the best way to find a rental. Good luck! |
But how do you get admitted to the listservs if you don't live in that area already?
Write to the mod to post for you
Ask your employer and reach out to the PTAs of the school your are interested in.
Maybe try Nextdoor
These places are not on Nextdoor
