Approximate Cost of Full Service Move?

| It has been many years since we moved...what would be the cost of local move (say from Arlington to Ashburn) for a 3000 sqare foot home's contents? I'm talking full-service, white glove movers who pack everything. |

Packing a full 3000sqft will be a 4 person crew for 6-7HRs using $600-900 in materials. You’re looking at a total of 150-175 boxes/bins.
Moving will be another 6-7HR day. I would suggest you use a 6 man crew to expedite the event. 4/5 could do it but it’ll last too long for it to be deemed “efficient”. With an hourly rate of $60-70per man that’s ~28 man hours to pack and ~40 man hours to move. Add on some wiggle room for extensive disassembly and preparation of difficult pieces and you could have a job expectation of 70-75 man hours with a distance between residences of ~20-30mins. At $70/HR billable you’re looking $5,500 with some +/- based on materials used. Get a few quotes. And see who makes the “most sense” with their approach to your job with these numbers in consideration. |

| The PP's estimate seems low to me. The lowest quote we received was around $6000 to move from our 2000 sq ft house for a full service move of a similar distance. We ended up just having the movers pack up our kitchen (took 2 people 3 hours to do) and did the rest ourselves with boxes and packing paper we got on Buy Nothing (in the summer, so many people are trying to get rid of moving boxes and packing material, we had more than we needed). Our total was a little over $3K. Looking at the estimate - 2 packers was $79/hour and 4 movers was $250/hour. We paid about $500 in materials - kitchen boxes and packing materials plus things like tv, art, wardrobe boxes, so I would estimate at least 3x that for your whole house. |

| Get some estimates, and get them to add packing as a line item. When we last moved a few years ago, packing was only like 20% of the total cost and it was well worth it in the sanity it saved. |

This is not accurate. We just got a full pack white glove quote for a 3500 square foot house with shipping a vehicle from Texas to DC and it was $21,000. |

| Ours was $10k without packing. $20k maybe. Keep in mind they lowball you on the estimate IME and then the fee at the end is whatever they feel like charging. |
