Literally throwing down food

What’s the deal with all of these youbube/insta/tik tok cooking videos where they throw ingredients down. It’s so annoying and nobody really cooks that way. Is this fad picking up steam or hopefully dying down?

I think I’ve seen some of these. DS will excitedly bring him some of these recipes to try. They are awful! I warned him once that this combination and technique probably won’t taste good. Sure enough it was bad. I offered to then make the dish using different ingredients, techniques and he loved it. I think these YouTube home cook influencers are being paid by DoorDash.

Why are you all thinking things like recipes on tiktok/insta/youtube are 1) real and 2) going to be good?

It's ASMR. So annoying.

What OP is talking about is not a cooking technique and has absolutely no effect on flavor. It’s for the sound (ASMR), which some people enjoy.

Op back and I didn’t know about the ASMR aspect of it. These aggressive and slap down videos are annoying. To the other pp, I never said I expected them to be any good.

I think part of it is that it’s meant to convey, “you just throw in…it’s so easy, you just toss together…”

I agree it’s annoying and unnecessary. But a lot of time these are meant to be “hacks” to save time or be easy, so I think that’s one aspect of why they make them this way.
