We're going to have a custom dining table made and are narrowing down the options. One of the considerations is whether to select a traditional table structure with the four legs at each corner or the trestle that has a long support piece running lengthwise down the depth of the table. I like the trestle styles I see but I do wonder about limiting leg movement. This table isn't just for the occasional fine dining but our everyday, heavily utilized table where we eat and hang out. I also wonder about limits for people sitting at the header and footer. Can anyone with experience with trestle tables describe any of their advantages/flaws?
Examples of trestle tables similar to what is being proposed to us: https://www.thosmoser.com/product/trestle-table/?srsltid=AfmBOopXSbOmtAxl5RqKXMRzQ8zg21zeECumxB2vLjDx9GJkEiZAFpzmgsI https://vermontwoodsstudios.com/products/rectangular-trestle-solid-top-table?variant=41607091191867¤cy=USD&utm_medium=product_sync&utm_source=google&utm_content=sag_organic&utm_campaign=sag_organic&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAiAloavBhBOEiwAbtAJOyeVlonG0FwmgFAz3gB6avpVPlEGqdKwaskzipTtMJjVjN1usqzuDxoCn0kQAvD_BwE Thank you! |
| Have you tried sitting at a trestle? I hate kicking the middle piece. Go find one to sit at. There are no advantages IMO. |
| You got bad taste. Seriously. |
| Not sure about pros/cons but I’d also love to get a trestle table. |
| I also love the look of a trestle table. We got a traditional 4 legged table, though, because our dining room is more rectangular vs square shaped, so we use the short ends of the table to seat people (in a pinch we can even fit an extra person on each of the short ends of the table). |
Agreed. This is why we're going round - less in the way of legs/ feet. |
My. To everyone else, thank you for confirming my suspicions. The craftsman has proposed possible designs based on historical arts & crafts templates that I do love but I was worried about the limitations and needed some reassurances my suspicions were in the right direction. |
+1. Plus you can’t push the chairs in all the way when not in use. |
The chairs stick out in my round table and it annoys the crap out of me. |
