hall bathroom shared by teens and guests - floor tile ideas?

Anonymous
Our upstairs hall bathroom is shared by our 2 teen boys (one is heading to college in the fall) and any guests who stay over. I'm planning to update the bathroom this fall and want a pretty classic/timeless look that will work for both groups, perhaps a touch to the masculine side because of my sons.

I plan to keep the existing glossy white subway tile in the tub/shower area (it's in good condition, I just have to figure out how to clean the grout, or if it can be regrouted), and am thinking chrome or polished nickel fixtures. I may use a navy vanity, which I know isn't "classic" but could add some masculine feel for my sons vs an all white bathroom.

I'd love ideas for tile flooring. I don't want to do matte white penny tiles as that is what is currently on the floor (probably from 1950s when the house was built) and they are so dingy looking I'm just sick of them.

Thanks.

Is it a 50’s colonial? If so and if this were my bathroom I think I would do white and black mini hex with dark grout and a wood finish vanity.

Heated. Nothing else matters.

I like small hex or herringbone - you could do marble which is nice because it is varying tones, or porcelain with a black and white design like PP suggested.
