Did you bring Peso or only US dollars?
Is AMEX accepted in most places in the Hotel Zone area? TIA |
| Visa and MC are more widely accepted. You can get Pesos at an Atm in Mexico…… |
| Where are you going within Mexico? |
| Not to cabo. They take dollars but charged most things. |
| Just went to an ATM when I got there. |
| We always just go to a local atm and take out local currency. |
Don’t count on this in smaller towns, even in tourist areas. The ATMs often run out of $$$ and/or have low daily withdrawal limits. We always bring pesos or exchange ASAP to avoid getting stuck. |
| Cancun? No. Just bring $1 and $5. AMEX is accepted. US $ tips are good at resorts etc. You can get pesos at a resort if you want to ride the buses or taxis. |
| How about in Mexico City? Need pesos? |
Yes you will need pesos but just get them from an atm. Banks are all over the place and they are all bilingual. |
I have never had an atm run out of money. And I have no need for huge amounts, my bank allows me to withdraw up to $800/day but in Mexico I usually took out a few hundred if that. |

Peso?
Just one? What will you buy with that? |
Happens all the time in places like Akumal, towns on the way to Coba, etc. And your bank's limits are not the ones to be concerned about. The Mexican ATM's may impose lower withdrawal limits than your bank. |
Ok, so plan ahead a bit. Most places in that area also seem happy to take dollars so you can carry some cash there with you as well. |
| Taking money with you is totally unnecessary. Sll tge ATMs won’t run out of mo ey. |
