For example:
My kid's therapist My kid's college advisor who lives several states away The dog walker My hairdresser My 80 year-old neighbor My parent's friend's daughter who lives in OH and contacted me about something, otherwise we have never had any contact or shared friends. I don't share any friends with any of these people. I've checked my settings several times and the do not upload/sync contacts is on. Several of these people have been in my phone contacts for a short period of time, so it couldn't be from years ago before I had selected this setting, which I am pretty sure has always been off. Any thoughts? |
| I don't think your phone always respects the "do not sync contacts." |
| Just X them out when they show up if you aren't interested. |
| It may be that they haven’t set their settings and you’re getting it based on being in their contacts, not yours. |
| I fail to see a problem. Just don’t request to friend them. |

Years ago, at least over a decade….I partnered up w/a few classmates for a group class project.
We had not exchanged any contact info at the time yet but a few days after meeting, I got a “People You May Know” notification on Facebook!! I was seriously blown away and asked many people how could that have even happened??! Well no one believed me. 😠 |

Oops I forgot to mention that one of the girls in my group was the person I may have known! Lol. |
| People still use facebook? |
It's not that mysterious, the other person/people probably searched for you. |
| Click on the little three dots next to the suggestion and tell FB not to suggest that person again. Done! |
Yes. My kid's high school sports team communicates primarily to the parents that way (they use some other app to communicate to the players.) Also, groups for parents whose kids go to a specific college are generally very active. |

Yes, people still use Facebook 🙄. I love Facebook for all of the groups I am in.
I don’t get those kind of friend suggestions because my contacts are not synced. But in the past week or two my feed is dominated by suggestions to follow random pages. I’m not clicking on them and I’m trying to scroll by those pages quickly, so Facebook doesn’t see me reading the topics because I don’t want them suggested anymore. Back to your question, make sure your contacts are not synchronized. Or it’s possible that your therapist looked you up on Facebook and so did your 80-year-old neighbor which is why Facebook is trying to make the connection. |
