Cat hiding because sick or just wants space?

Anonymous
I noticed this morning my cat has started sitting on the floor under furniture more and more. She will still jump on beds/couches/her tower, but this morning she sat under the bed for a little bit, then jumped on the couch, then jumped down and sat behind the couch. When I turned around to check on what she was doing back there, she walked away. She is now sitting within eyeshot of me, under a desk, flicking her tail.

I will obviously take her to the vet in the next couples days if this continues, but can anyone talk me down? I've heard that cats often hide when sick and I can't tell if that's what she's doing or if she just needs some space.

She is playing. Its not that she's curled up asleep under the stove for 12 hours, is it? That would be the kind of hiding they do due to illness.

Hunting or dying?

Take her to the vet. If you’ve also noticed any decrease in her appetite or if she hasn’t used the litter box today, take her to the vet immediately.

I think you're right to be concerned by an unusual behavior. I'd wait a few days too (call vet today and get an appointment for early next week). How old is she? Is she coming out to eat?

If it is only occasional I wouldn’t worry. When my cat got really sick he went into a closet and pretty much wouldn’t come out.

A normally social animal hiding should be taken to the vet
