How do you pronounce Fauquier and Louisa? (Virginia)

Anonymous
Roadtripping took us down into Virginia today. This is when I realized Marylander DH and I (DC native) pronounce Fauquier differently - fah-key-air vs. fock-yur.

Do you say Louisa as Lou-wee-zuh or Lou-e-suh?

You’re both wrong on Fauquier. It’s Fah-keer. My DH is a Fhs Grad.

Y’all should listen to WTOP more often. The traffic reports will teach you how to pronounce things properly.

There is a dorm at William and Mary named “Fauquier” and there it is pronounced “Fo-kee-ay” but agree that the county is faw-keer.

The dorm was originally pronounced properly, which really is “faw-keer.” But then students answered the phone replacing the “faw” with a “fuh” and so the administration came up with a new, less obscene, pronunciation.
