Catfish. How are people still falling for this stuff in 2024?

I have watched this show from the beginning including the movie. I truly cannot understand how in 2024 when it literally couldn’t be easier to video chat (iPhone, zoom etc…) how people are still falling for this and thinking someone is real when they won’t show their face.

The second to last episode was the saddest to me though…Leanna and Jordan. She gave him so much money and she is so young. She clearly just wanted to be loved. I really felt for her but also kept thinking “how can someone be so dumb?” Ugh.

Not a viewer, but on the subject of how this scam still works? Never underestimate what loneliness can do a person's decisions.

Any sort of mental health issue, intellectual or cognitive disability makes you vulnerable. Wait until your parents start aging.

People are lonely and get emotionally attached.

I know it’s loneliness. Obviously. And wanting something so bad they are willing to look past all the red flags.

The older women this happens to are also on dr. Phil sometimes. And it’s always the same outcome-some 20 something either here or in another country just using the person for money. Every single time.

It’s emotional manipulation and some people are very good at it. They play the long game and wait for the person to be 100% attached before they start asking for money so it seems more legit. Literally months of basically grooming before asking.

And the person is so obsessed with the attention they get from the person that the facts that are so obvious to everyone else they simply refuse to see.

Of the like 100 episodes of catfish there have been I think there have been less than 10 instances where the person was who they said they were.

1. Some people are REALLY stupid.
2. Some people are faking this because they want to "be famous" and don't realize if anyone recognizes them it'll be for being stupid
