Learning Spanish

I am learning to speak Spanish. What is the most polite way to ask who you think speaks the language if you can practice with them. Should you ask in Spanish, '*hablas espanol*' and if they say yes, then you ask in spanish if you can practice with them?

Hire a conversation tutor and pay them. Why do you think people will teach you Spanish for free?

You can look for an intercambio- 30 mins in Spanish. 30 in English.

I don't think that. I meant in the context of when I am out and about interacting at a store, restaurant, etc. I figure a 2 minute conservation or so is better than nothing until I can get a tutor or when I am in a spanish speaking country for a short period of time. I don't want to assume everybody there speaks Spanish

Yes!
I ask people this regularly. Of course, you need some context: you believer they are a Spanish speaker, etc. (I don’t generally ask complete strangers.)
When you look for something, you learn where to find things. I have made relationships with speakers in my school, church, and the occasional store manager.
I think if you are trying in earnest to learn something, people tend to be welcoming and helpful.
PS - we are a polyglot family.
Buena suerte.

Gracias por su respuesta.
I asked someone today at a local Mexican restaurant (one of the assistant managers and they were receptive. She seemed to understand me and smiled. I just don't want to offend anyone, but I think you are right that if you appear truly eager to learn, people are receptive.

Mutter in Spanish as some people will speak Spanish to you. Unlike the monolingual sourpuss earlier, native speakers enjoy when an English speaker tries to speak a different language.

Isn’t it a form of cultural appropriation for a non-BIPOC person to learn Spanish?

What if it is needed for one's job or future job?

What if you extended family is mixed race?

What if you are marrying a native Spanish speaker?

What if you have a lot of friends that are Spanish speakers?

What if you plan on traveling extensively to Spanish speaker countries?

Don’t let logic spoil a chance for people to feel offended
