Can parents verify service hours?

For example...if I want my child to tutor their younger sibling...can I verify those hours as service hours?

Might depend on the coordinator at your RVs school, but I have verified hours for my kid when it’s a personal project.

That should be DCs school, not RV!

You can’t be serious

Yes but everyone knows those are usually BS

I would verify hours for certain things for my kid if needed but I am not even asked to verify anything lately. I have been asked to verify for others in the past (I run some activities with kid volunteers) but really not recently.

Yes. We have a dance teacher who gets confused by those emails so I just verify when my kid volunteer teaches at the studio

No. This is a rule and MS and HS admin typically turn it down. Or if not, it was mistakenly over looked. Our MS returned NJHS hours to a scout of mine . The student sent the service hours to parent. When student went to check if it had been verified by the school, it had been denied. Then student re entered them, sent it to me (scout leader) for approval, then it was verified by school.

NJHS is completely different and X2VOL hours are verified by the social studies teachers, not admin.

Service hours/volunteering is a family and parental decision. WHY does the public school insert their big foot in this area? Does the school principal or superintendent post where they volunteered last year? I would love to see it. Sorry, rant over.

Tutoring your sibling isn’t valid service hours
Anonymous
No of course not because parents could game the system.

+1. It’s like saying you are awarding service hours for walking your dog.

If it’s NHS, they won’t count because it’s strict verification of what does and doesn’t count. At least at our local school.

If it’s college applications, write anything you want because nothing is verified. You can award 1 million service hours.

We are talking about the FCPS volunteer hours here which I believe the country can only encourage and not force and why I believe they stopped asking me to verify anyone’s hours as mentioned above.

Who requires these service hours? What grade does this take place?
