What to do about "Bad" or "Malicious" ads

We have on authorized rather simple, nonintrusive display advertising. Any ads that block text, expand from a normal display ad slot, pop-up, or takeover the entire screen are unauthorized and unwanted. We appreciate your assistance in combating these ads.

We are working with a third-party advertising partner and have to rely on that company to block unwanted ads. You can help by doing the following:

1) take a screenshot of the ad;
2) report your device (e.g. iPhone, PC Laptop, Macintosh) and browser (e.g. Safari, Firefox, Chrome);

You can also use the "#audit" tool to report these ads. The tool does not work in Safari on the desktop, but it does work with iOS, other mobile devices, and other browsers on the desktop. Here is full documentation of the tool:

In brief:

1) Add “#audit” to the end of the URL and press Enter/Return (do not refresh the page).

2) Click “Report this ad” on the overlay for the ad you wish to report.

3) Complete the form, enter your email address, and click Report. Note that I have never been contacted by email after submitting a report, but feel free to use a fake email address if you are reluctant to use your real email address.
