Should bus riders do more to help if someone is being harassers ?
Today my 19 year old daughter was going to work, like she does every weekend, today there was this guy that got on the bus and sit across from her, who wouldn't stop starting at her so she moves to the back of the bus. After she moves to the back of the bus, the guy followers and tells her something she didn't understand (he was high or drunk and not sure what he was speaking.) and all she could say was okay okay. the guy goes back to the front. a few minutes later he goes back to the back and start talking to her, and sit next to her. She decided to get off on the next stop and just wait for the next NH1, and the ... (There about 10-14 people on the bus)_ and the only person that helped her was this lady who lives in the apartment complex she got to catch the next bus. She waited for her to get on the next bus. She thank her with 100xtimes. |
| I relied on public transportation in my 20s and can’t count how many times I got off a bus or train because of harassers or crazy people. Didn’t tell my parents about it though because obviously as a mom you’re going to worry. I blame the city’s carelessness on crime. |
| Pepper spray. Backed-up by a handgun. |
Both illegal in DC. -someone who got fined for having pepper spray (25 y/o woman) |
Neither are illegal if you have a permit. Get the permit. |
Thanks Muriel |
| I've stepped in when a drunk guy was making inappropriate comments to a couple of (probably) underage girls. Just deescalated - mainly standing between him and them, also asking him questions to redirect his attention. |
