I went to open a box of cereal just now. So hard to pull the inner bag apart it finally ripped explosively and cereal all over the counter and floor. What happened to the waxed paper inner bags?
Dog food used to come in bags that either had the paper strip and string (pull paper strip, whole thing opens nicely) or else (less desirable) had a zip lock and you'd tear the top away (never worked as well as it ought). Now they are all sealed together permanently for a couple of inches at the top and you have to get a scissors. Inner seals, like on dairy products like yogurt, where there isn't enough of a tab to get a grip on to peel the whole thing off at once. |
| If I can't find scissors, I use a serrated knife |
| I too feel your pain on this OP. |
| I used to blame my aging hand grip, but it really is the packaging. |
I do that too. But I am not happy about it. With dog food it seems to be correlated with changes in the recipes, so maybe there is a freshness aspect (along with the premium pricing) and the packaging is part of getting the consumer to pay premium prices for dog food. and reduced product loss from insects, mice, package damage. The highest priced products did this first, the same packaging is working its way down to the moderate and lower priced brands. |
| My guess is that packaging has changed because we are all buying this stuff online. |
makes sense |
| I would like anyone from the cereal company to talk to anyone at ziplock. |
|
| Couldn't you just pour the cereal into a gallon Ziploc and put that in the box |
They actually do sell resealable bags of cereal for most brands. |
| I think putting a ziploc in the cereal boxes would make them a lot more expensive. |
| I love that Eggo waffles come with tape you can use to reseal the bag. |
|
I hear you OP! Also if they do have some sort of resealable bag most times it doesn’t work or does poorly.
I just cut everything open with scissors now and use bag clips for everything to seal |

I am glad that the kibble comes in packaging that is hard to open. Because otherwise my cat tears open the new bag before the old bag is finished.
I have started leaving the bag of friskies in the trunk of my car until the old bag is finished. |
