Were you able to schedule an induction?

I'm planning to deliver at Reston hospital center and brought up the idea of a 39 week elective induction with my OB. She said that beds are sometimes scarce and you can only schedule a pre-41 week induction if there is an ample excess of beds. She said she has no idea how likely it would be that I get a spot. Has anyone had experience scheduling an elective induction at RHC? Any luck? Also curious about other hospitals.

that's strange, over in DC, they are pushing for inductions after 38 weeks for most moms - esp those over 35 yrs old. it's sort of nice your doc isn't pushing the induction talk with you! how are old are you?

That was pretty much my exact experience at a different hospital. My May baby they were able to get me in 3 days after I requested induction. My March baby they were very busy and still had not gotten to me 11 days after the request when I went into labor naturally (thank God).

I was at Sibley in 2020 and 2023 and had two scheduled inductions at 39 weeks. The procedure was to pick a preferred date or two at the 36 week appointment. Exactly two weeks before, the doctors office called the hospital to request. My doctor made it seem like they knew to call at a certain time to get their patients in. Both times I got my preferred date.

Three inductions at Reston. First was medically necessary at 40+5 weeks for low fluid. Second I had to beg to get in at 39+4. Third they scheduled me right at 39 weeks but I was also 39 years old so that was probably a factor

I had no issues scheduling an induction for just after 39w at Stone Springs.

At a different hospital, I wanted to be induced at 39 weeks but they didn’t have availability until I was 39+6. And it was barely scheduled — I got a call the evening before that they had an opening that came up at 5am the next day.

Gw told me they didn't schedule inductions for non medical reasons due to staffing/beds....obviously they would if needed but didn't want to just bc 39 weeks

At a different hospital, but was also told they wouldn't schedule an elective induction. Was able to schedule because I am over 35, however. They also initially said I likely couldn't until 36 weeks, but my doctor called just to see at 32 weeks and had was able to schedule right away.

She said scheduled at 32 weeks, not induced at 32 weeks

I was able to schedule one but knew they would cancel on me if they were too busy. They did cancel but told me to come in the following morning at 6 am. When we showed up, they tried to send us home due to lack of beds. After three weeks of false labor, we opted to stay and wait instead and they eventually induced me at midnight. My baby came five hours letter. It was a crazy long day and emotionally draining but for many reasons I needed to be done.
