My friend just got a job in the Hong Kong office of a big, international law firm. She's very excited about the opportunity and is looking for advice about making a smooth transition and more generally about living over there. She's single and does not have children, so no worries about school etc.
Anyone? |
It's very, very, very expensive. Sky high rates for small apartments. Great place to buy pearls. |
Tell your friend that she needs to make sure taht her firm provides a nice COLA adjustment and/or housing allowance, otherwise will not be worth it. With the right increase in pay, she will have a blast. I never relocated there myself, but had several friends at the firm who did (went to visit) and they loved it. Its a great base from which to travel to almost any other location in Asia. The shopping is great, not just pearl, but also furniture (as long as you do not have to ship it on your own dime). Hong Kong itself is beautiful (I have a fondness for Lantau (sp?) island). |
