Types of schools to visit close by

Anonymous
We want to start visiting close by schools with my sophomore, to get a sense of types of schools. We will visit UMD for a large state school, AU for a suburban private university, GW for an urban school. Where should we go for a SLAC?

For SLACs we visited Gettysburg and Dickenson. For computer related/game design programs we visited Drexel (can do on the same trip, which is why I'm mentioning it, although a University. kid picked GMU and did very well in game design

You could try one of the PA schools that aren't too far away - Gettysburg, Dickinson, Franklin and Marshall.

Mary Washington? St. Mary’s?

Yep, these are nice! They also have a lot in common. If your kid loves that vibe, then they can visit some of the others, but if you just want a taste, visiting just one of them will give you a picture.

Agree with this: Philly is also a great place to see a variety of schools: Swarthmore, Drexel, UPenn, Villanova, Haverford - good assortment of all types of schools and not a bad drive.

Washington College in Chestertown MD gives a good sense of a rural, small town LAC but is a pretty short drive from DC (depending on any traffic back up over the bridge!)
