Hotels in Provence

I'm the OP from the France, Not Paris post and have decided to take others' advice and go to Provence. Exploring the villages, some hiking, wineries, etc. day trip to Cassis and staying one night in Lyon on the way back to Paris for our flight.

For those who have stayed in Provence before, any hotel recommendations? We would like to do a luxury stay but Bastides du Gorde and Crillon le Brave are a bit out of our price range. Right now considering Coquillades and Bastien de Marie closer to the Luberon and Chateau du la Gaude in Aix. Any experience with these or others you recommend?

I’m a PP from that thread who spends every summer in Provence. Friends have stayed at and enjoyed Les Bories in Gordes, Jas du Gordes, and La Bastide in Bonnieux.

We stayed in Arles which was a great jumping off point for visiting the small towns, castles, and Cassis. I can't remember the name of the place (it was more than 20 years ago lol) and it was probably not as luxurious as you are looking for, but take a look at Arles.

We had a lovely stay at Le Jas de Gordes in summer 2022. Short walk from town and lovely property. I especially loved the pool and the breakfast spread.

I recommended La Bastide de Marie in
Menerbes in the other thread. We really enjoyed it.

Yes thank you! It's at the top of our list. How was the food? Accessibility to the town?

Thank you! We're really considering Les Bories because it seems close to Gordes and I love that there is a great view. Will check out the others too

I'm not sure what the luxury options are, but we used St. Remy as a base. Easy to walk to restaurants for dinner after touring around during the day.

You need a car for sure. It is not in Menerbes itself, which is a hill town, but in the valley. Very easy to drive to Menerbes, Gordes, L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, etc. We went to Gordes on market day, which was totally worth it.

The food was fabulous. The restaurant is highly rated and hard to get into if you aren't staying there. We did dinner there 2 nights, which includes their wines. The hotel rate itself includes breakfast, afternoon coffee/cake, and a cocktail/snacks before dinner. Everything was delicious and we had breakfast and drinks outside. You can do a tasting in the winery. The rooms were beautiful and we had a bedroom and living room, along with a patio area.

We were there in fall of 2022, so pretty current. I'd go back tomorrow if I could (but I can't because they don't open until April)!
