Romantic dimly/candle light quiet bar in DC for a special date

Anonymous
My first date in a very long time but with an old flame from 25 years ago. Meeting for drinks and would really love an intimate, cool, dark/candlelight vibe.

I’m already SO nervous and I know a flattering environment will help put me at ease.

Please help this recently single 53 year old who hasn’t had a date in 25 years find a cozy, romantic spot. Drinks and food are secondary, definitely looking at atmosphere first, but would be great if it had both!

Anywhere in DC proper would work but prefer NW

I havent been yet but Turncoat just opened at The Heights in Friendship Heights, and it is supposed to be a speakeasy vibe (dark, secret, etc).

We went there on date night. It's nice, but it's also not big. We got there early and got a seat at the bar, but I'd recommend reservations if they take them -- by the time we left, it was pretty full and people were being turned away.

What about Barcelona Bar in Cathedral Heights? Hotel bars also tend to be less crowded and more intimate.

You have to post a post-date update, OP!

Evening date in DC? Hard pass. I wouldn't want to end up dead.

Really clever. You should pivot to a career in comedy

I feel like you can get this vibe at Morton's on CT Ave, and as a plus it's never busy

Reveler’s Hour? (McClellan’s Retreat is nice, but closer to a dive bar vibe.)

My picks for an old school romantic vibe: Bistro Cacao; Iron Gate; Tabard Inn (historical/quirky; bar area is an old parlor and is cool place to get a drink); Chez Billy Sud; Et Voilà.

Other ideas: San Lorenzo (charming but can be loud); Albi (probably my favorite restaurant right now but also can be loud and isn’t in NW); Maxwell (cute little bar but wouldn’t recommend if you want to get a full dinner).
