What are the most - and least - competitive MCPS high school programs (not in bounds, test in or lottery)?

Anonymous
We are just starting to look at the various MCPS high school options and I am wondering which are the most - and least- competitive? Thinking about special programs for magnet humanities, engineering, and IB. But interested broadly in learning what is out there an dhow competitive they are.

I don’t understand your question. There are no special programs that are neither in bounds, test in, or lottery. They are all one or the other.

And where you live will determine which ones you’re eligible for.

We live inbounds for Walter Johnson. Any advice on what to look at?

RMIB is one of the more competitive programs, but inbound students can take the IB courses or even opt-in after their junior year.

Several application-only merit-based HS programs are not a restricted lottery like CES etc.

And they all require tests, except possibly the Visual Arts Center at Einstein.

Right, but the OP didn't exclude portfolios, so maybe ...?

+1
Restate your question so it makes sense. What do you mean not in bounds test in or lottery? Do you mean career or vocational programs?

There are no specific tests for these programs. They rely on grades derived from tests and standardized tests the county already uses. Studens also have to submit a personal statement of sorts.

We loved WJ for our family. Kids learned a lot and had excellent teachers!

Doesn't the VAC program still have the live art test as well?
