ADHD and AAP

Does an ADHD diagnosis affect/impact selection into AAP?

There are a lot of kids with ADHD in AAP, mine and others. It doesn't keep kids out.

I think getting a diagnosis and treatment BEFORE second helps. We struggled to figure out what was going on until this year (4th grade). Our kids GBRS was awful even with high test scores so they didn’t get in. I think they would have if we had a diagnosis in hand.

It’s fine. But it is a lot of work as a parent; helping them stay organized, on top of assignments, staying focused and on task while studying. ADHD kids in high rigor programs need a lot of parental support. Or a least a lot more than their type-a perfectionist neurotypical counterparts that tend to be in AAP

If anything it helps with admission I would say

Other way around. FCPS loves 2E kids

Really? What kind of 2E support is provided outside of AAP?

DP. One of those Es is for gifted. That means that AAP is the support provided for 2E kids. What is your question?

Many (actually) 2E kids will not get into AAP or thrive there. So is there anything else FCPS does or is it just picturesque 2E and not really 2E?

I've got an ASD DC with high IQ and an ADHD DC with high IQ who are both in AAP. I suppose they are picturesque? I think they are handsome kids but I admit that I'm biased.

The statistics say that there are ~2-5% of 2E students in elementary schools. It seems like every parent of an alleged 2E student feels their child belongs in AAP.

Does FCPS do the testing to check off the “at least a FSIQ of 130” or are parents just labeling their kids 2E, because they have manifested it?
