| The problem with a cult of personality is that it can't survive without the personality. Trump isn't likely to be alive in another 10 years (at best). Who is the heir apparent for MAGA after he's gone? Will they turn to Don Jr. and continue to embrace crazy, or will some traditional Republican pick up the banner, and start to turn the party back toward normality? |
| The retreat back into the cracks of society like the cockroaches they are until the next demigoge comes along to rouse them. In the meantime the forces of light will have to expose them for who they are and the hate the represent. The Nazi's lost. The Confederates lost. The MAGAs will lose. Hopefully we can work towards a more perfect union thereafter. |

The GOP has been working towards minority rule for 50 years. It predates Trump and will continue. What Trump did was give his followers permission to let their anger all hang out. It will morph into something else. I did think some will go back to screaming at their TVs but we still have young guns like Ben Shapiro, Andrew Tate, the Steve’s (Bannon and Miller). We all want to blame this on Trump. The rot is deeper and wider spread. This is why we need to beat them at the ballot box like we’ve been doing since 2018. |
+1 Thank you for saying it. With Project 2025 and the GOP’s continuing and multifaceted assault on voting rights and democracy, it’s clearly not a “MAGA” problem, it’s a whole GOP problem. But MAGA specifically seems especially strong among older people. They will die off and the next version of it will come up, though I am optimistic that we will be better and kinder in the future. |
| They will cease to exist as a movement, but they will continue to poison their communities with their sick, twisted worldview. |
I’m sure Steve Bannon would be flattered that you include him in the young guns, at 70 years old. I actually agree with both OP and you. I think when Trump becomes incapacitated or dies, it will be a real blow to the MAGA world because they won’t be able to coalesce around one idol, but I also think that the Republican operatives have been rigging the system for at least the last 50 years, through voter suppression, controlling media, gerrymandering, dark money, court packing, bowing to foreign influence, mob mentality, and encouraging this kind of idolatry by courting voters with fringe beliefs and welcoming them under the Republican tent. |
Trump is not the cause but the symptom. So it will go on and on. Trump has taken what was always said privately and said it out loud. Nixon and Ronald Reagan had the same issues and said the same stuff just in a more acceptable way. The question is who will rise up next and will they be smarter vs Trump. On Jan 6th Trump was planning on going to the Capitol at the head of the mob. Think about the Capitol police trying to stop the president of US with secret service and a mob at his back. Trump was just too lazy to get out of the car and walk to the Capitol. |

The MAGA movement is really a white Christian Nationalist movement with the goal of supremacy. It was never culturally palatable on that message, so in the 80's it switched to a fight against Roe Vs Wade in order to draw in more support/rage/politics/media/etc.
It will not go away. This has been the base of the Republican party for several decades. With Trump/MAGA it is has been far more direct. That it why Trump supporters keep talking about honesty and such with Trump. |
But religion is dying, same with MAGA. It will move on once Trump goes. |
| I think old MAGA will die off, and young MAGA will go back to minimal participation until they find someone else charismatic. I suspect it will take a similar path to the tea party. |
| I don't know what happens to MAGA after Trump, but whatever happens, his enduring popularity with a segment of our society has shown us something so raw and ugly about them that I despair for the future. I know that I will never feel the same about this country. |
Steve Bannon is 70, and in no better shape than Trump. The others you mention are mosquitos with no personality. |
The problem with you - the problem most of you here have - is that you think Trump started the concept, the idea, of “MAGA”. That’s what you believe. That before Trump, it didn’t exist. And therefore after Trump, it won’t exist. You think the entire thing is just some marketing concept cooked up by one guy. And there’s no convincing you otherwise. It’s a pointless waste of time to even attempt to explain to you why you’re wrong, because you’re not even equipped to understand it anyway. And frankly, letting you exist in your state of delusion is actually better anyway, because you focus all your energies on Trump instead of actually studying your opposition. So I’m content that you do that. |
You should definitely be considering emigrating to somewhere more to your liking. Are you? |
