AI-assisted college admissions processes

Given the massive increase in applications at T30 schools (and others) this year, what do we know about how admissions offices are using AI and technological advances to expedite the review process?

Are they using AI to:
1. Search transcripts/essays for keywords
2. Search for keywords in LOR
3. Automating tasks (checking for minimum GPA and sorting by major program interest)
4. Searching for niche ECs

What are this years “keywords”?

Is it true that larger out of state flagships are more likely to use AI than smaller private schools? Especially as it relates to transcripts??

“For example, a computer algorithm could be trained to generate personal quality scores from student writing instantaneously, reliably, and at near-zero marginal cost.”

This is what they endeavored to do in their study. The researchers used “human-centered,” supervised machine learning to measure personal qualities in students' descriptions of their extracurriculars. They trained research assistants to code for personal qualities and recruited college admissions officers with professional expertise to do the same. Researchers trained the model by “identifying the presence or absence of seven different personal qualities commonly valued by universities and shown in prior research to predict college success.” These included attributes like prosocial purpose, intrinsic motivation, teamwork, and perseverance.

Troubling because I think a lot of applications are not going to even be read.

An interview on Your College-Bound Kid podcast debunks a lot of fears about use of AI in its most recent episode:

I think private high schools know the keywords

Dartmouth is already doing this to make first cuts. Lee Coffin of Dartmouth admitted this on the YCBK podcast.

What a coincidence that only a few months later, Dartmouth announces it is going back to required testing. The AI algorithmic tail is wagging the dog.

Hard cut on gpa and scores if submitted.

These posts make it obvious that most of you don't even know what AI is.
