Favorite trips with elementary aged kids

Anonymous
I’m looking for inspiration for future travel locations. We typically like being active and outside- hiking, rock scrambling, beaches, pool, nature, animals, skiing. Not huge foodies and not too much success with museums yet.

Our favorite trips so far have been Hawaii and San Diego- lots of outside time and animals. We have also enjoyed:

Tahoe and the Redwoods
St. Louis
Maine

What have been your favorite trips with elementary age kids?

My kids loved South Dakota. Lots of hiking opportunities and rock scrambling. We went and stayed by the Badlands a few days and then by Custer Park longer. Lots of animals to see as well when we drove the wildlife loop through Custer. Lots of other outdoor activities in Rapid City as well and you could cross the border into Wyoming and see Devil’s Tower.

Grand Cayman - snorkeling, stingray experience at a sand bar, starfish experience at a spot with tons of them. My kid loves the water.

Also loved London - double decker bus tour, cool taxis, various sights.

My kids also loved South Dakota, especially rock climbing.

Southern Utah (Zion, Bryce Canyon, etc) is also good if you're an outdoorsy family.

We also loved Cayman Islands for the easy snorkeling. Stingrays, starfish, blue iguanas for animal lovers.

our kid has loved basically every trip ever. I was surprised at how much fun we had in London recently though.

DS is in 5th grade - last summer we went to Glacier National Park and then over to Northern Idaho. He loved it! We did lots of hiking, boating, mountain biking and animal viewing. This summer we are going to Alaska and I expect much of the same. A surprise favorite was Oklahoma, so much so that we have now gone twice for long weekends. Outside of the US we all loved Norway and Denmark.

Kimpton Seafire - excellent. The resort fee includes use of a gopro among other things - great underwater shots.

A dude ranch. CO, WY or MT in summer. Arizona in winter/spring. We went to Tanque Verde in Tucson with our 2nd grader. Kids club, ride horses 2 times a day. Lots of fun.
