If from another country, how often do you go back?

We usually go back once a year. It's a big expense and always with a connecting flight + long road trip afterwards. I love seeing my parents, it's nice to be in childhood home and see everyone, but it's so expensive and I hate complicated travel, which it always is. Now we have to book our summer flights and of course it is so expensive and I am dreading it.

I'm only from another part of this country, and still, I can't make the trip more than once a year, and then only for a few days.

I used to go back either once or twice a year. When I traveled for work I was also able to go on my own a couple of times a year. As the kids have gotten older we go a little less - fewer relatives alive, less close to friends etc.

We do spend quite a lot on flights, but I just see it as a cost we have to pay for living here. My standard of living is still significantly higher than it would have been had I stayed.
