Age for deodorant?

Anonymous
My 9 year old told me someone from her class told her that her armpits smell and when I went for a sniff, it was BAD. I guess I did not realize it starts so young! Is it just my child?

If she needs it she needs it. Better to start too early vs. too late. Get her the real stuff because the natural whatever doesn’t work on kids going through puberty.

It doesn't matter the numerical age.

Um like 8. Way before they start to smell!!! I guess you aren't a teacher.

Depends a lot on the kid. One of my kids really needed deodorant in 3rd. The other not really until 6th. (Both boys)

Mine started smelling at 7. We took her to the dr but they weren't concerned.

Mine started deodorant at 8, which is very normal. Kid is now 10 and 5th grade teacher periodically reminds the class that it's necessary.

I'm sorry yours had to hear it from a friend, but definitely get her some tonight.

My kid started around 8. It was very obvious to us she needed it. She used the Tom's teen deodorant for around a year then needed more.

DD started at 7 in the summer, also daily showers started then too.

My DS started in 4th/5th grade. As a teacher, I can not handle the body odor from so many students at around this age (5th/6th grade). Do their parents not know that they smell?
Please buy your kids deodorant whenever the BO begins! Thank you!!!

Kindly - either go to the drugstore tonight or let kid use yours tomorrow. Do laundry too if needed. Somebody at school already said something: if it's not fixed tomorrow your kid may get labeled the stinky one and that will stick.

Mine started at 10 for sports but doesn't need it on the day to day. Every body is different. If your kid smells, then get it now.

One thing to consider though is that perhaps she sweats a lot at nighttime and you should switch to morning showers.

It just depends on the kid. My older daughter needed it at 7 in 2nd grade. I noticed from the smell of her shirts in the laundry. My middle girl is in 4th grade and she’s never smelled yet that we’ve noticed but she has been using a natural deodorant just because she wants to be like everyone else.
