Any idea how where my DD can sign up for AP summer courses that count towards GPA in the summer? Are they all online or any in person? Im a bit confused by the PE options as well. |
I don't think the summer school catalog comes out until March. You can take classes at APS, through Virtual Virginia or one of the other approved online vendors. PE is an option through APS but some kids do a virtual option through Fairfax or Loudon. I'm not sure how the PE class taken out of district works, but the classes taken at APS or through one of the approved vendors will count towards GPA. |
There are no AP courses offered through APS. Not sure too many offered in summer either. I’ve heard WL students sometimes took APUSH In summer in the last. But I don’t know where. Summer AP is rare. |
Virtual Virginia also has PE. |
Just take a class at NVCC |
I think it's more common to knock out non-AP over the summer and that leaves AP for the school year. I've never known a student to take AP in the summer, but PE and Econ and very common. |
I have never heard of summer offerings of AP classes. There is just too much information that must be covered. And, the AP test is only offered the first 2 weeks of May. That means they would be waiting nearly a full year to take the AP test for any type of college credit. I would stick with NVCC or non AP classes for summer programs |
If you want to impact GPA, you can consider removing some of the middle school classes since none of them will be weighted. |
