Do you use your Ice Cream Maker

Anonymous
And if so...which one do you recommend?
I have wanted one for a while, and I know my 6 year old would think it is great fun.
Thanks.

Nanny here-the kids and I have made ice cream three times this past month. We used an egg free recipe, basically heavy creme, whole milk (it has to whole milk), sugar and vanilla. Once we added crushed Oreos-yum! We used a hand operated one where you basically churn for a minute or two every few minutes and in twenty minutes it's done. I forget the name of the maker but it begins with a D (Doppier or Dommier or something like that).

We got one as a wedding gift. Never used it - sold it a yard sale. It seemed like a lot of work, ben & jerrys is very good, and it took up a lot of space in our small kitchen.

I have the same Cuisinart at 11:03. We don't use it that much and the reason is because of planning. You have to freeze the internal compontent for 8 hours before you can use it. That means that I have to both plan ahead, which I don't tend to do that well, and I have to have room in the freezer for the component, which I don't usually have.

We have the cuisinart and an extra freezer so we keep the part that needs freezing in there and it is always ready to go. We use it a lot during the summer with fresh fruit and a bit less the rest of the year. We love ours!

Yes, we have a cuisinart as well. LOVE it.

Basic recipe:
half and half
sugar
fruit (love peach)
flavoring of some sort -- try almond w/ the peach. yum.

We use our Cuisinart all the time -- we just wash the drum and immediately stick it back in the freezer so that it's ready the next time.

We got the new white Cuisinart that comes with two drums this summer. My older kids use it a lot -- love finding ice cream recipes on the web and inventing their own. Go for it! Although with a six year old, you will be doing the real work, and you may get tired of that....

11:03 here. Planning? I put my drum in the freezer as soon as it's dry. The amount of time it takes to freeze depends on the freezer. I give mine 24 hours to be sure. So far I've found I don't need a second drum but I'd get one if we cranked up production. My favorites are sorbets and egg-free ice creams. Cuininart's recipes, online, are good, and there are tons on the Internet, too.

We use ours at least 3-4 times a month. We make a lot of fruit sorbets in the summer. If the fruit is really sweet (like peaches that are currently in season) we just put them and a little sugar in the food processor and then freeze. It is yummy and actually freezes really well. We make it and eat it from the freezer for a week or so.

I have a Cuisinart too, and a very small freezer. I just pack the inside of the drum with frozen peas, berries etc so it doesn't take up too much space. In the summer I use it about every 2 weeks. Buy The Perfect Scoop. Great recipes.
