It's 2 hours south of Chicago by car. Amtrak train runs from Chicago. In middle of nowhere, well corn fields around. Nice Arts center for performances. Go Illini!

Getting there. It's a significant problem. Look at that first.

And all of our kids went out of state to college.

A small airport in Urbana/Champaign. Flights from Detroit after you fly from DC area to Detroit.

Just go to Michigan. You can take the bus from the airport in Detroit.

Any one with experience the Engineering department at UIUC who recently graduated? We know it is in middle of corn.

Engineering School, I think you mean. It is high quality but it also is hard (as with most Engineering schools).

Were there specific questions ?

Corn is not the location problem

Top tier. The best in the midwest. Sought after in SV and other areas of the country.

Apart from CS, pretty much every other program at Michigan is a tier above UIUC so this advice makes sense if the student has already crossed that hurdle and is deciding between the two.

It'll provide for a great big school college experience. Engineering, comp sci, business are all excellent and well-regarded in Chicago (a huge job market) and elsewhere.

Having said that....it's cold. And, hard for out of staters to get in/out of.

How about biology and pre-med major? Any recent experience?

My kid is a recruited athlete there and in a science field (not pre-med and not engineering). Having a great experience, good education. School is very well-respected in Chicago-land. Kid is enjoying life in a different part of the country. I’ve decided I prefer to fly in and out of Indianapolis rather than Chicago. The drive is shorter and airport easier to navigate.
