| If your options in state were all regional universities, not the top 3 state schools (total reaches due to fierce competition), would you look out of state for other options? Florida fwiw. |
|
What are the top 3 in Florida again?
UF UMiami Florida State? |
|
Umiami is private.
Feels like Florida has more large schools that I guess aren’t UF or Florida State but more like 2nd tier flagships vs a regional university. Schools like UCF and Florida Atlantic |
This is about right - but UMiami is significantly more expensive than UF and Florida State even with paying full OOS. I would give UCF consideration as well - particularly for engineering. A lot of people have started to choose UCF over Florida State for engineering and comp sci in particular. |
WHY do you feel the need to go OOS? Dont think you'll get acceptance? From what I understand has pretty good state system (as long you keep away Desanctimonious). |
I meant public ones, sorry. UF, FSU and UCF, which is increasingly popular because FSU and UF are so hard to get into. |
Right, the best public ones are reaches. Do we try for a flagship out of state instead, knowing likelihood of getting in at some is much higher? Or do we just go for very low cost at a regional FL one, knowing it will be ranked much lower? |

What are the instate acceptance rates and stats for
UF Florida State UCF UTampa? |
UTampa is private. The state school in Tampa is USF. |
30% 25% 41% Tampa is private |
What a stupid - and inarticulate - post. Sounds like you need to go back to school. |
|
Can you afford to go out of state? What does your child want?
The money is the only downside to going to another state's flagship over your state's non-flagship. |
We would prefer he stay in-state, and it will be a no-brainer if he gets in at one of the top state schools. He would prefer a big school out of state to a smaller regional one. It would be a very difficult choice in terms of money: we can "afford" it but we are not wealthy to the point it doesn't matter. |
Huh? |
These acceptance rates seem reachable for most disciplined students. I would think As and Bs would do it. OP do you think your kid can get into these in state colleges? |
