Anyone have MRI side effects?

Has anyone here had side effects from an MRI with contrast IV? I have to get one soon and I’m kind of scared.

MRI, no, contrast, depends on the person. I had no side effects and I react to lots of meds.

I experienced nausea and hives starting 4 hours after and lasting 48 hours. I discussed it with my allergist who said those aren't mri contrast reactions. He couldn't explain why I had those symptoms. The only thing that I did differently was have an mri with and without contrast. I have reacted to vaccines and dyes before, so I'm certain this was directly related to the contrast. This won't prevent me from doing the scan again, though, as it ruled out cancer in my case.

The contrast dye makes me dizzy and nauseous for the remainder of the day. But I know a lot of people who have no side effects from it. If you feel nauseous after the dye, ask the technician for some crackers (they should have some) or bring some with you.

They tested my kidneys beforehand and they’ve probably done the same with you to ensure your body can process the dye.

Although I have a lot of allergies, the dye didn’t cause me any issues.

Bring water with you to help flush it out afterward.

The MRI itself was peaceful and relaxing. The newer machines are more open and you can choose to listen to the radio.

Nope OP and I have had quite a few.

I agree with PP MRI itself is peaceful and relaxing.

No one can bother you enjoy the peace.

I don't mean this to sound callous. It's just MRI's have improved greatly

My mother, my teen and myself have had MRI with contrast, no side-effects. In the moment, you can feel cold or hot when the dye is injected. Please drink lots of water to flush the dye from your system afterward, just in case. The MRI specialist should tell you this, but I want to mention it in case he or she forgets.

Nope, no side effects fro the contrast dye.

MRI contrast is a different substance from CT contrast, you should not have any issues. It’s only contraindicated in people with advance renal disease and often not even then.

MRI contrast is fine. Bring a bottle of water with you and start drinking as soon as you can, and you should flush it out pretty quickly.

I think a lot of the complaints people attribute to the dye may be because the noise of the MRI triggers migraines or an uncomfortable position triggers tension headaches.

I've had 6 breast MRIs in the last 2 years (cancer diagnosis) and only had a slight problem with the very last one. When they pushed the contrast I suddenly had a spinning sensation and a feeling like I might vomit that lasted approximately 7-10 seconds. I've had experience with anaphylaxis to IV meds and this did not feel similar so I waited and it faded and didn't return. I actually forgot to even mention it to the tech afterwards. I'll bring it up before the next one to be sure but it seemed like no big deal and Google suggests it's not uncommon. I've never had lingering aftereffects.

Nope, no effects and I have them yearly.

I sometimes get a metallic taste in my mouth right when they inject the contrast

My mom is allergic to iodine, but I’m not. I’ve had several both with and w/o contrast. I prefer w/o only because I have terrible veins and the sensation of the contrast feels unsettling. No actual reason to not get contrast when my provider wants it.
