Invite for spring travel at FCV

Can some of you more experienced soccer parents clue me in? DD was invited to a “ free season of travel for U9 & U10 girls” with FCV. Why are they doing this? I thought these teams formed in the fall and played the entire school year together so what happened to the existing U9/10 teams? (Forgive my ignorance, but we’ve only done rec league before.) From the other posts here, it seems like there’s some drama at FCV right now but I couldn’t really follow it or understand the impact for my DD’s age group.

That sounds desperate. No one offers travel soccer for free. Who is paying the coach’s salary and for field space? And you’re right that travel teams would have been formed in the fall. Maybe they didn’t have any luck forming teams for those ages last fall and are trying to get some future paying customers lined up for next year?

They let players come in for a training session all year round if you are interested.

That sounds very odd, and more than a bit desperate. I know some of their younger players have been trying out at other clubs in the past month. Maybe they are trying to add players so the teams don’t fold after players depart?

They offered free rec last year too. I am guessing to get more field space.

This is exactly what happened. The u9s and u10s left after tsj fired their coach for ridiculous reasons. They are trying to save their program. It also won’t be free, add on $300 team fees and a $300 uniform fee. They are desperately trying to save their travel program that they fumbled badly.

How do you have free rec soccer? who pays for the referees?

The email was about free travel not rec soccer. But since you mention it, DD played rec with FCV in the fall (not for free) and there were no refs. One of the big reasons why we are planning to go back to Loudoun next fall.

OP here. I’d like to know this too. We were already not inclined to do FCV rec again but were considering travel for next fall.
