So many comments about reducing overhead at central office. Is this only the hungerford drive location? How many employees are there of the central office? Is there a budget that shows the total salaries spent for central office personnel? |
I remember reading McKnight increased their ranks by something like 30%. |
Students and staff Students 160,554 (2022-23) Teachers 13,994 (2022-23) Staff 25,232 (2022-23) |
I've read MCPS has like 2X the amount of support staff as FCPS. |
In those numbers, "Staff" includes staff at the schools and elsewhere. Principals, secretaries, building, security, cafeteria, etc. |
Sure, but MCPS has what 210 schools? This is an average of 120 staff per school which is nuts. Even at the high school level, how many staff could there possibly be, 100? That leaves the central office with high hundreds to even thousands of employees. Insane. |
This is the most recently published report on the staff at public school systems across Maryland:

You will never get to the bottom of MCPS’ leases on buildings in the county. They literally must rival Venezuela. Truly socialist. The classic example: celera genomics building on gude. Once a cutting edge biotechnology firm that characterized the county and its future. Now, a place filled with MCPS central staff - who coincidentally perform homeschooling reviews (from disgruntled parents who originally moved to MoCo ‘for the schools.’). You can’t make this stuff up! |
If you check Table 4, it shows the ratios of staff compared to the count of enrolled students. For noninstructional staff, MCPS has fewer per student than most of the other counties in MD. Their ratio is only 17.2, and the state total is 20.9. The only counties with a smaller ratio are Dorchester, Kent, and Somerset. |
It’s the number of ghost employees- retired- who are scary. Pensions and healthcare for those cats- who have long departed for cheaper Red States. THIS is the reason budgets are in billions - and yet so many MCPS schools are shoddy and filthy. |
At our elementary school, teachers and specials add up to at least fifty. Support staff probably are another thirty or forty. Secretarial, admin, building services may be another twenty. Right there that's easily a hundred people for a student population of some six to seven hundred. And if you're Title 1 or some other special designation, the number could easily balloon. |
What was McKnight’s payout? So much silence after the firing - has to be over a million. |
They publish a report on property owned and leased every year. https://gis.mcpsmd.org/realestate/RealPropertyInventoryReport.pdf |
Probably they had to pay her generously to take one for the team. |
I believe teachers are also included in the total staff category. If that's the case then non-teachers (central office, transportation etc) would be 11238. |
